Configuring store basics

The basic store settings live in Store › Sales › Settings › General. Set these once at launch and revisit only if your business address, selling locations, or customer base changes.

Store Address

This is the legal address of your business. It determines:

  • Default tax rates calculated at checkout.

  • Default shipping rates if you have not set up shipping zones explicitly.

  • The address shown to customers on invoices and order emails.

Fill in Address line 1, Address line 2 (suite, unit), City, Country / State, and ZIP.

Selling locations

The Selling location(s) dropdown controls who can buy from your store.

  • Sell to all countries. Anyone in the world can check out.

  • Sell to all countries, except for... Useful if you need to block specific regions.

  • Sell to specific countries. Only the countries you list can buy.

For firearms, most US dealers should be Sell to specific countries with only the US selected. Use the Restrictions tab for more granular product level rules.

Shipping locations

Controls where you can physically ship. Usually narrower than selling locations.

  • Ship to all countries you sell to. Matches your selling list.

  • Ship to specific countries. Use this if you sell digital products to anyone but only ship physical goods to certain places.

  • Disable shipping & shipping calculations. Useful if you only sell services or downloads.

Default customer location

Sets the customer's location used to calculate taxes and shipping before they enter their own address.

  • Shop country / region. Uses your store address.

  • No location. Customer sees no tax or shipping until they enter their address.

  • Geolocate. Detects from the visitor's IP. Best UX but slightly slower on first page load.

Most stores get a smoother checkout with Geolocate.

Taxes and coupons

Two checkboxes at the bottom of General:

  • Enable taxes. Turn this on if you charge sales tax. Configure rates under the Tax tab.

  • Enable coupons. Turn this on if you want customers to be able to apply discount codes at checkout.

Currency

The bottom of the General tab controls how prices display:

  • Currency. The currency your store charges in.

  • Currency position. Where the symbol sits, left or right of the amount.

  • Thousand separator and Decimal separator. How numbers are formatted.

  • Number of decimals. How many decimal places to show.

Saving

Click Save changes at the bottom of any tab before navigating away. Changes do not autosave.

Other settings tabs

The General tab is just the start. Other tabs in Store › Sales › Settings:

  • Products. Default product behavior, inventory rules, downloadable product settings.

  • Tax. Sales tax rates per state or country (only if Enable taxes is on).

  • Shipping. Shipping zones, methods, and rates.

  • Payments. Payment gateways (see the Payments category).

  • Accounts & Privacy. Whether customers can create accounts, GDPR consent.

  • Emails. Order notification templates (see Customizing email notifications).

  • Restrictions. Product level shipping restrictions, age verification.
